About the Gathering

Who are these people, and what are they doing?

A bit of history

The Permaculture Gathering is part of a decade-long tradition. Over ten years ago, Lost Valley Educational Center and the nascent Eugene Permaculture Guild combined to organize a small permaculture gathering at Lost Valley, near Dexter.  The scope was expanded the following year, opening up the event to a wider audience.

For the next six years, known as the Northwest Regional Permaculture Gathering, the event was hosted by Lost Valley and organized by the Eugene Permaculture Guild and focused on traditional Permaculture topics relating to home scale ecological design.

Six years ago, the gathering moved into town and its scope changed a good deal. Its focus became more urban and grew to include a broader set of topics and issues such as economics, urban land use, energy, human relations and local food security among others.

Two years ago the gathering became self-managing.  Permaculture remains at the heart of the program, with global trends such as peak oil, climate change, and water informing the event a great deal.  For the last two years the gathering, under the name Cascadia EcoFair, was hosted in a rural setting.  Now the pendulum is bringing us back to town.

Those organizing the event have taken on a huge task. We are all volunteers. This is a labor of love for a more peaceful planet. We welcome others who would like to be a part of this adventure. Please contact us.
